Black Dog Forge (before 2017)
Established in 1989 by Louie Raffloer and Mary Gioia, Black Dog Forge emerged as a beacon of creativity in the eclectic Belltown neighborhood. Initially a modest blacksmith shop tucked away in a back alley, it soon became a haven for artists, musicians, and creative souls seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life.

As part of its rich history, Black Dog Forge holds a special connection to Seattle's iconic grunge scene. In its basement bunker, bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden found solace and inspiration, refining their sound amidst the clang of metal and the heat of the forge.
The story of Pearl Jam's early days intertwines with the fabric of Black Dog Forge. Eddie Vedder's arrival from San Diego, his audition with the band then known as Mookie Blaylock, and the subsequent rehearsals in the basement space—all of these moments helped shape the trajectory of one of the most influential bands in music history.

As Pearl Jam's star began to rise, Black Dog Forge remained a vital part of their journey. The makeshift rehearsal studio, with its blankets draped over exposed water pipes for soundproofing, became a sacred space where the band crafted the raw, emotive melodies that would define their signature sound.
